Long rides can get you exhausted. You will definitely need an extra source of energy when you are traveling on motorcycles, but… what is the best food for a bike trip? You should learn how to manage this challenge, for that you have to know there are some important ingredients for your meals that can keep you strong and not destroy your health during long journeys while you are on the road.
Also the space and the possibilities for cocking on a motorcycle journey is limited, so the choice of the food to carry on the bike is very important.
But the most important for us is to know which food give us energy, ends with the feeling of hunger and have a light digestive process so we don´t get sleepy while riding.
Yogurt, oats, seeds, almond milk, fried or boiled egg. Always one cup of caffe/tea and one glass of lemon juice with water.
Always is important to have some nuts with us (almonds, pistachos, raisins…). How we use to travel by small roads and villages we stop in local markets to buy natural products like honey, cheese, vegetables and fruits. Also we always have with us energy bars, some piece of bread and peanut butter.
In that way we always eat seasonal local fruits and vegetables. There are better, healthier, cheaper and also it helps to protect the environment.
Cans are also a great option, like cans of tuna or beans, we call those the emergency food that don’t get broken, and don’t take a lot space with us and there are some really good brads with no conservatives or additives.
End of the day
For the dinner time we always use our stove and cook some pasta, rice, lentils. We deserve to eat something hot and more tasty with combination of spices.
Always stay hydrated, specially when you know that you have to cross some long and remote road, or riding in desert, always bring some extra liters of water and keep constantly drinking even when you don´t feel thirsty.
When you are riding in highland is important to drink a lot tea and always to bring some small chocolate or candies for the blood sugar. If you planning a ride through the Andes in Bolivia or Peru, don’t miss to try coca leaves tea, it will help you to avoid high mountains sickness symptoms.
In the region of South East Asia is very hot and humidity, and is very recomendable to eat a lot local soups.
There some god ingredients like TOFU, a great protein source that you can eat in many ways: soups, salads, sandwiches…
Traveling is difficult to keep a balanced diet. Vitamin and mineral supplements can be really useful.
In South America go to the markets in the villages, not only to buy fresh local food but because there is always a section where older grandmothers cook typical dishes, healthy and very cheap food made with the same ingredients from that market.
At the beginning our way of eating has a main goal which was get power and don´t have heavy digestions, but after the cancer what Manu recently got in his bladder our misión with nutrition is also to remove toxics and inflammation from our body so since a year ago we stop eating meat, adding sugar to our food or drinks (we prefer fruits) eating processed food and specially avoiding industrial bakery.
