FROM THE DESERT TO THE MOUNTAINS OF MOROCCO WITH TOMTOM RIDER 550

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] For more than 4 years we were traveling the world on a motorcycle and we never used a GPS. We did it that way mainly for two reasons, first because we wanted the route to surprise us by taking us to places weren’t in our plans and second because meeting people form around the world was one of our main motivation to travel so we prefer to stop often our bike and ask to the locals for which path to take. But there was a fundamental factor so that we could ride through 70 countries on our motorcycle without missing a modern navigation system and is the fact that we had no time limit for that trip. Without mortgages, contracts or too many possessions that would make us to return on a specific date, we did not mind spending time by getting lost on that trip. But life changes and in these moments when Manu´s health needs a bit of care from doctors we have only the breaks of its treatment to go on a motorcycle journey so we must plan a little better those trips, and that is why for our visit to Morocco we decided to experience how it would be to travel with GPS. The first thing that we had clear is that the trips should not going down on adrenaline and then we discovered the perfect companion for that Moroccan tour, the new TomTom Rider 550, a GPS designed especially for those who love traveling on motorcycle. Their functions made us take advantage of the best possible way the only two weeks we had to enjoy a country that offers both for the motorcyclist as is Morocco, and that the trip did not lose any adrenaline. WiFi connection and lifetime worldwide maps To get…

TURN OFF THE FIRE IN YOUR CAR WITH BLAZECUT

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] For our new adventure traveling around the world we decided to make a big change that consisted mainly of changing our motorbike for a classic 30 years old 4x4 van. The first thing we did was to restore it, add some elements that would allow us to travel through all kinds of routes and of course go through a camper conversion so that besides being our vehicle to move it would also become our home and place of work. All our energy and savings, together with the help of some companies which sponsored some of these processes, were invested in the van so our future depended on the vehicle can resist the challenge of going around the world. It was time then to start thinking about how to reduce the risks that at some point we could lose the van. We install alarm and anti theft systems, we also carry the necessary spare parts so that we do not have to leave the van abandoned in case it broke down in the middle of some remote desert but mainly we think about how to prevent that a fire in the engine or in the electric system could spread throughout the vehicle turning all our dreams into ashes, we discovered that the solution was as simple as BLAZECUT, specifically its "T" Series system. This is a tube about 18 mm in diameter, an automatic fire extinguisher perfect to install on the engine of any vehicle, especially if like ours it runs on gasoline. Its installation is so simple that it does not need more than a few plastic clamps, as well as its performance is simple because BLAZECUT reacts to the heat of the flame and the tube will melt releasing the extinguishing agent that will end with the…

THIS IS WHY WE NEED A TRAVEL INSURANCE

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] When we started to travel we though it was enough to have a strong backpack and a good pair of shoes, but after years of traveling the world we learned that insurance is something we want to have with us when we are out there. No matter how far you go or how long time you are going to spend in your trip, get a travel insurance. A day hospitalized in the United States can cost over $ 4,000 and an ambulance brings you to the hospital will be almost $ 1,000. But do not think that only in the United States will medical expenses be increased, a fall with an injury in Mexico will cost you more than $ 14,000 or a broken leg in Thailand would reach $ 25,000. Before our big travel project we were thinking it wasn´t smart to spent money on it, luckily we never need it even when our trips involve many risks and adventures, but once we decide to travel on motorcycle we were well advised by friends and other travelers so this time we change our mind in the last moment we got an insurance. Think this way, if you can afford to travel you must to keep in mind that a part of your budget must go for the travel insurance always. The same way when you buy a new car and you know you will make an insurance for it. You also have an insurance for your home then why not to insure your travel?  HAVE A LOOK TO THE IATI INSURANCE PRICES, ALSO THE READERS OF OUR BLOG WILL HAVE A 5% DISCOUNT WHEN CONTRACTING FROM THIS LINK For just around 15 € you can travel a week in Europe and for less than 30 € in…

THE 5 GADGETS YOU WILL USE THE MOST ON A MOTORBIKE JOURNEY

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] When we decided to travel around the world on a single motorbike we knew that choosing which things to take with us and what to let home is one of the hardest moment. There is very little space and packing up can be a real challenge. For Manu it was always easy to prepare the bags, it looks like he is always ready but I really was suffering thinking that there are many things I will need and that I couldn´t take with me. Finally after the whole travel experience our conclusion today is that the most useful things from our travel were some gadgets we never think about MULTI-PURPOSE KNIVE Always in our pocked we have Swiss knife which is very practical. It is small and not heavy, it doesn´t need much room for it but it has many functions. We use during our launch by the road to peel some fresh fruit or make a sandwich. So with this small tool we can make fast our sandwich, also to prepare fire for camping and even many times to tight some screws on the motorbike, this magic knife It is a gadget that we were somehow using daily. SECRET POCKET TO KEEP MONEY AND PASSPORTS  That´s the best way to be sure always your passport, money and credit cards are in safe place. We use to make cash by the road working with our talks and selling photos and tha´ts the money we use to cover our expenses, we are not credit card guys so if the cash finish or we lose it somehow the travel stops. Same will happen if we lose the passports specially if you have Macedonian passport like me, I got very few embassies in the world that can help me to renew it…

HOW TO PROTECT OURSELVES DURING A MOTORBIKE JOURNEY

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] Back in 2013 when we decide to go around the world on motorcycle we just bought the bike and the rest of the equipment was looking for us too expensive, and even I can say at this moment not really important. Our only previous experience on motorbike was a trip for few months in India. There we rode a Royal Enfield with no helmets, with flip loops in step of boots, our backpacks attached with ropes to the bike, short pants and shirt.    The travel was so good and we liked so much that we decided to travel the whole world. We keep in our line and we really didn’t plan anything about gear, we only wanted to hit the road, we chose a destination, going east where the sun rise, and we started to travel.   At the beggining we had an open face helmet Iike the one you use for riding a scooter in the city, I had no gloves and no boots. Of course no any proper suits with protection for motorcycle. Then as we were going farther and crossing countries we could face every possible weather conditions, some of them very extreme if you dare to travel with motorbike where you have no the protection that you can get in a car. The climate can change really fast and our bodies start suffering the consequences.     When we cross Pamir mountain we went into snow storms and ice roads, with no gloves, we were getting frozen and wet, the temperature dropped as low as -20ºC, we have monsoon rains in Indonesia, very strong winds in the hearth of Australia and an unbearable heat in Cambodia. Somehow we manage to arrive until Chile and then an accident end with Ivana´s leg bronken in two…

WHAT ARE THE BEST CASES TO TRAVEL ON A MOTORCYCLE?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] One of the very important parts of the preparation for a long journey is choosing the bags and organizing the luggage you are going to take. In our case going around the world on motorcycle means to have a very limited room for the stuff you can carry and also that you must be ready to face every kind of weather and road conditions You must have some winter clothes, summer clothes and a pair of shoes for when you are not riding, also then extra tools, spare parts, kitchen, camping gear and electronics like computer, camera and hard drives. Basically you need to reduce everything you have and get a small version of your home. Before we started our travel we didn’t know what exactly we are going to need of what kind of things it will be a waste of space, but with the experience on the road we were learning every day from the different situations and adapting our equipment every time in to the best way possible. When we bought the bike in Sevilla the seller saw really fast that we were completely ignorant about what kind of cases we will need, he basically discover we were ignorant about everything related to motorcycle so he recoomend us the Givi Trekker side hardbags. This was the best model GIVI had back in 2012 but a couple of years later, when we went from clients to ambassadors for GIVI we change to the aluminum models GIVI OUTBACK. Why did we choose hardbags instead of soft ones? If you make a long trip you will probably want to document it so you are going to carry computer and cameras, things that in soft bag can be easily damaged. After many falls and vibration of the road we…

VIDEO · CAMPER CONVERSION IS DONE. WE ARE READY TO HIT THE ROAD

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text]A few months ago we had an idea. To park the motorcycle for a while and continue traveling in a van. We wanted a different trip and this new vehicle offered us what we wanted now, more outdoor. In our previous project we went through some of the most remote places on the planet, but when you travel by motorcycle the extreme and exceptional conditions of these regions (temperatures, wildlife, altitude, loneliness ...) end up causing you to focus basically on crossing that places because being trapped there can be literally dramatic. So the visits used to be much shorter than we wanted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezeO7oBBxMM&t=13s   That's why a 4x4 van. Be more self-sufficient. Bring with us food, water and energy to be able to spend all the time we want in those kinds of places. We can also bring more equipment, mountain bikes, equipment for trekking, more equipment to document the trip and even for the first time in many years we would have our own roof. We could put our base of operations wherever we wanted. But of course, it could not be any van. We needed one that will dared with all kinds of routes, which does not stop in front of rivers, dunes, mountains, savannas, jungles and deserts and that will allow to go through them as we did with the motorcycle. In our mind, the photograph of the vehicle we wanted was clear. For how to get it we had no idea. As it happened before when we started the journey  around the world on motorcycle, we do not know anything about cars, mechanics, the real needs that we will have on the road with this new vehicle... we did not even know how to drive it, so the first thing we had to do…

ALMOST READY TO LEAVE. BUILDING THE PERFECT VEHICLE TO TRAVEL (PART 2)

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] When you finish a big project you always want the next one to be much better, and for 6 long months we have been working for that. We were never attracted to the idea of stopping so long. A whole winter in the same city for a couple that has not stopped more than three months in the same country for the last 10 years? Those who knows us can imagine how many times we have been so close to quit with all this process and keep moving. Travel is definitely addictive and the inertia of a traveler like us is a difficult force to control. But ok, in the moments of highest stress we take a deep breathe, we fought and we shouted between us, we went running to the snow and of course ... many other things that can not be told here, but the question was to calm down and remember why this investment of time. Now the energy is completely different, with the arrival of the spring, the rise in temperatures, the return of the sunny sky and the first flowers also the renovations of the van is about to finish. All the work of this time is giving its fruits and very soon we will come back to eat kilometers again. How we already share with you in a previous post (see link) in this second part we write a resume about the last changes in our van during this week. We finished the interior. Our sponsors Studio Contempo and Tehnokoop gave us the van with the insulation and all the furniture installed. For the first time we have experienced the closer feeling of having a house. After so many years of backpacking, traveling by motorcycle and sleeping in a tent, our new…

HOW TO TRANSFORM AN OLD T3 SYNCRO VAN IN THE PERFECT VEHICLE TO TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD (PART 1)

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="2/3"][vc_column_text] Even when we are in our middle thirties we do not know yet how to drive cars, or about mechanics or electricity, we don´t even know how to change a flat tire or after how many kilometers the oil need be changed, but like that is how we decided to look for a van to travel around the world. And how as at this point we are already used to dream big, so we choose the van to be a classic 30 years old like us and 4x4 so there is no road that can resist us and we can travel with style. The first continent will be South America where some of the most impressive mountains, deserts and jungles are, but before we start to fantasize where the van will take us, the first thing comes first, and for us that was learning to drive. A few months ago we arrived from Africa finishing our world tour on motorcycle and a few days later we signed up for the driving school. 8 hours of classes and an exam after Manu already got the license, a week later we found on the internet a beautiful Volkswagen T3 Syncro Caravelle of 1989 that was for sale in Barcelona. Plane, cash and we take the keys of our new home. No time to wait for us, without experience, without waiting for to change of name of the owner to be completed and without even having a physical driving license (it takes about 3 weeks since you passed the exam until you get it home), but with a Bob Marley CD On the radio we went from Spain to Macedonia by van. The best plan is not to have too many plans, and for the moment everything was perfect. From now…
