That long-awaited new normality is near and soon we can move freely again. It seems that with the summer come the reopening of the borders, at least within Europe, so these last few days we are spending the time it tuning the vehicle with which we will leave.
Finally we opted to leave the motorcycle parked and move with the van mainly because taking the bed, the kitchen, the shower and the work/shop with us wherever we go seems the best option in these times of pandemic and social distancing. And of course it will be easier to find less crowded and more natural places where to spend time and to disconnect from all this chaos we are experiencing.
We have already recharged the batteries, changed the oil and have even added some new accessories such as the homemade shower that we just installed a week ago, but we still had to secure the van with an insurance company that take care of this particular type of vehicle and journey.
Personally we have had a couple of years of broken dreams, or parked dreams, first dealing with cancer and just when the medical controls happened to be every 6 months and we were able to return to our travel projects, then the confinement of the coronavirus arrived, so in this third attempt to escape we wanted to have the best insurance company possible before to continue with our adventures, so that no new obstacle stop us from moving forward. We chose Camper Cover, and these are the seven reasons that led us to work with them:
1. All those furniture, batteries, kitchen, electric winch and other elements that we have installed are included in case of accident in the insurance.
Camper conversion is the process of equipping the van s it is able to live in it and get the best experience during the trip, this involved a great effort and a significant investment of our time and money and it was important to be considered by the insurer. In most conventional vehicle insurance this kind of elements and modifications are not protected and it will be difficult to claim its value in the event of an accident, so this is one of the main reasons why you have to look for specific insurance for this type of vehicle.
2. Damage or theft of sporting goods and luggage.
A camper van is not a vehicle intended only for traveling. That is why we installed a huge roof rack where we plan to transport items such as bicycles, kayaks, tool boxes, rescue plates, led lights or hiking equipment. All this additional luggage is clearly visible and very sensitive to being stolen. Camper Cover coverage makes us feel safer when we leave the van parked while we escape into nature.

3. Damage from collisions with animals.
When we decided to change the motorcycle for the 4×4 van, one of the main reasons was to be more self-sufficient so we can spend more time in remote places such as mountains or deserts, but entering these places and natural areas increases the risk of having an accident with a wild animal that crosses our path, something that surely not many people take into account when they are used to moving around cities or major highways, but you should have it in mind for camper van trips.
4. A regular circulation policy with improved travel assistance.
A camper van is a special vehicle that we want to be treated with love, so we really valued assistance on international travel with the option of being able to take the van to your trusted workshop with no limit of kilometers to take it.
5. Special valuation of the vehicle in the event of an accident.
Our van is a Volkswagen T3 Syncro from 1990, with more than 30 years it is already considered a classic vehicle but all the improvements we did on it the van is far from being just an old vehicle. So in the event that an accident ends with its total destruction, it will be better not to have traditional insurance where the company will pay us at best the market value.
6. Extreme weather conditions.
After traveling on a motorcycle throughout much of the planet, we have learned that one of the main challenges and obstacles that we must face when we leave the comfort zone are the radical climate changes. Torrential rains, hurricane winds or the sudden fall of large hail balls can surprise us at the most unexpected moment causing great damage. It is important that before insuring a vehicle we worry about covering these types of circumstances.
7. Protection of all occupants.
Camper Cover offered us the possibility of including civil liability insurance for both of us even when we are out of the van, the chances that in this context something can go wrong when traveling you can already imagine that is very high.
