Me and Manu are traveling since we met each other, literally from the first day and that is almost 10 years. After all this time traveling we could learn a lot and in this article we want to share with you some of the best tips we think you should practice to enjoy another country culture while traveling.
1. Meeting local people
You can make friends with other travelers from time to time, but locals are always around ready to help you, show you their life and tell you where are the best places to visit. The language is almost never a problem. You will find than a basic English or Spanish it will helps all over around the world. If not, you can use some body language and even the conversation will be more interesting and funny.
2. Take a lots of photos
Take many photos from the places you visit and people you meet so you will always remember those experiences. The photos are the best souvenir you can have from each place, specialy if like us you traveling by motorbike and you have no much room for to carry any other.
3. Be Positive, always is possible
Often many people were telling us that something we wanted to do would be imposible, but then we gota n extra motivation to proof them they were wrong. Believe yourself and in your skills, if at the end you couldn´t reach your travel goal it doesn´t matter, at least you try it.
4. Say HELLO
First you should do when arriving to new country is to learn few basic words from local language, words like “Hello” and “Thanks”. When you meet new people in new place have a eye contact and smile, then say hello in their language and they will love that. The doors are going to be open like that.
5. Don`t be afraid
The media want to present the world as dangerous place, but is really like that? From our experience is far away from dangerous. The people mostly are friendly, generous, kind and very helpful. Listen to locals, they know better than everybody the real situation for their region and they will explain you how to avoid problems. Respect them tradition and way of living and you will never have problem.
6. Eat the local food, is the best and cheapest
Eat street food, observe a bit around and watch where most of the people eat, then go there. Try all different kind of food, go in food market and enjoy local dishes, it´s cheaper, faster and better.
7. Say Yes
Many times while traveling you will have moments of meeting with strangers and those people will offer you place to sleep, dinner, gasoline or many different thigks you were never expecting. Learn to say yes. They inviting you to their home with good intenttion, to show you the culture and tradition, to eat some home food and give you warm bed. Say yes to this unexpected offers and you will have many anecdotes from your travel.
8. Travel slow
Don’t try to broke records about crossing more km or more countries in the time you will spend traveling. The good story and momments happend when you spent more time in the places you visit and when you spend enough time to explore.
9. Minimum planning
For our travel around the world we just choose 3 points and the idea was to connect them some how with our motorcycle, we let everything else open to surprises. If you plan too much you can get disappointed at some point, it can happen unexpected problems and you will be stressed for not get to do what you was planning. Just go and enjoy.
10. Get a travel insurance
Nobody is thinking to go to travel and to get sick or some accident, but sometimes can happen. We felt down many times from the bike, mostly in bad condition road and usually it happen nothing serious, but once I finished with a broken leg. If you have travel insurance to solve this situation will be much more easier and relaxed, You don’t have to worry for bills, for managing hospital…
